In addition to providing a job, we coach our employees through workplace challenges and assist them in obtaining things such as photo identification, bank accounts, housing, and transportation. Further, The Nonantum is wholly invested in helping our employees achieve their personal goals. We have guided Raising People Up participants through reestablishing relationships with their families, finding and affording significant dental work, paying off fines, receiving drivers’ licenses, purchasing vehicles, and more.

Post-Release: We do not believe a mistake from the past defines a person’s character, nor should it drive the trajectory of their future. By hiring non-violent offenders we are actively working to break barriers and reduce the stigma associated with periods of incarceration.

Recovery: As the opioid epidemic surges on, and more quietly, the misuse of alcohol and other substances continues, The Nonantum is proud to support employees in all phases of recovery. The Nonantum fosters a safe and recovery-friendly environment, engages our employees in addiction & behavioral health education and prevention, and promotes prevention and recovery within our community.

The Nonantum Gratitude Project sparked from the creativity of one of our employees. Marston is a young man with autism who works in our kitchen, and he makes sure our silverware is rolled to perfection. Marston is a proud member of Team Nonantum, but when he is not hard at work, he loves to make art.

In collaboration with Marston’s family, we have created gratitude postcards using the artwork that Marston has crafted. These postcards are in each of our guest rooms with compliments from Marston and our team. It is our hope that guests will join us in sending a note of gratitude to someone special in their life. If each guest does this, just think of all the gratitude we can share! 

The Gather 4 Good initiative aims to connect our patrons with the incredible work being done by these organizations. The more who dine, the more these organizations can benefit. We believe in the power of coming together to support local causes and create a stronger, more vibrant community. Join us in Heckmans Pub in supporting these non-profits & our local heroes!

This year, Gather 4 Good is in support of Maine Cancer Foundation, Kennebunkport Parks and Recreation, and the Biddeford Cultural and Heritage Center. Hosted in Heckmans Pub Thursdays from 4-9pm.
