In honor of Giving Tuesday, we wanted to share some of the causes we’re pleased to support in our local community. The spirit of giving at The Nonantum Resort extends well beyond just the holiday season – it can be witnessed throughout the whole year. Here are some of the highlights we’re glad to share so far for 2015:
In June, our Innkeeper Jean Ginn Marvin and General Manager Tina Hewett-Gordon competed in the annual Tri for a Cure to raise money for the Maine Cancer Foundation.
Later in June, we were honored to host the inaugural Fishing for Freedom event with Wounded Heroes Program of Maine, Cabela’s, the Libreti Rose II and 11 other local sportfishing boats for a tournament with 40 local veterans departing from The Nonantum’s marina. Read More
For Halloween, the talented kids of MaineStage Shakespeare put on a spooky, fun haunted house in some of our guestrooms. The event raised $250 in donations, which The Nonantum was pleased to match for a total of $500 to support local theatre.
Our sales team declared the month of November as Non-Profit Month at The Nonantum Resort. We waived the facility fee (up to a $1,000 value) for any local non-profit organizations to host their fundraiser, staff retreat, meeting or special event here without the extra overhead costs.
At Thanksgiving, our Innkeeper Jean and General Manager Tina once again thanked all our staff with turkeys and pies. Many then chose to donate their turkeys and pies to the Seeds of Hope Neighborhood Center in Biddeford to help feed the hungry during the holidays.
This week, Kennebunkport’s Christmas Prelude kicks off and The Nonantum will host numerous events throughout the two-week celebrations, many of which benefit local charities – including a Nutcracker Dinner Theatre to support River Tree Arts, a Cookie Crawl to support the Good Shepherd Food Bank, Gingerbread House Making to support the HB Fuel Fund, and a Craft Fair to support the Center for Grieving Children. For our 6th Annual Fire & Ice event coming up, we’re pleased to again support the Education Foundation of the Kennebunks and Arundel and Make-A-Wish Maine. Last year we were pleased to donate $5,000 to each charity. Many folks are surprised to hear that Fire & Ice is a charitable event. Indeed! In fact, this year we’ve added a new Thursday VIP Pre-Night and are partnering with the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital for this exclusive evening. More Details
