Congratulations to Innkeeper Jean Ginn Marvin and General Manager Tina Hewett-Gordon who competed in the Tri for a Cure triathlon, which raised a total of $1.6 Million for cancer research in July 2016!
Tom Macisso, our Activities co-director, saved a 6-year old boy’s life by performing CPR when his mom shouted for help from across the lawn at the pool. Tom knew what to do in that moment, and we are extremely grateful that he was there. If you see Tom down by our Activities tent, please tell him thank you for helping to keep our guests safe. Tom has been nominated for a “Going the Extra Mile” award with the Greater Portland Convention & Visitors Bureau.
Mary Jordan, Dining Room Supervisor, has been chasing down her dream of becoming a member of the U.S. Paralympics Team at the World Equestrian Games in Rio. Mary has been riding since she was a little girl. In 2002 she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). We are very proud of all of her hard work. She is a inspiration to us all!
We have some smart cookies on our staff! Amy Eckland was named Kennebunk High School valedictorian 2016, and Sydney Campbell and Joelle Krause were in the top 10% of their class! We’re lucky to have these gals (and Joelle’s mom) working in our dining room.
Sales and events coordinator Ariel Taschereau was promoted to Director of Employee Enrichment for the 2016 season and has been working with national hospitality trainer Judy King on implementing customer service and guest satisfaction trainings for our staff.
Activities Director Barbara Lisa received her yoga certification and teaches morning classes on the beach at Biddeford Pool. Activities co-director Risa Hiser is also a certified yoga instructor and leads our morning Yoga on the Lawn sessions every Fri/Sat/Sun, 8-9am. (For more details, see our Activities Schedule).
Activities team member Cooper Williams was able to help a very confused and lost couple from Chile that spoke no English. Luckily, Cooper is fluent in Spanish and helped the pair figure out where they needed to be to catch their whale watch and translate back and forth between them and the front desk. Cooper is minoring in Spanish at Carnegie Mellon University.
Innkeeper Jean Ginn Marvin was elected Chair of the Maine Community College System Board of Directors. She has been working with the community college system on creating a Hospitality Rising Stars program, which last year our Guest Service Manager Michael Lariviere, Banquet Chef Jeff Duhaime and Sous Chef Craig Pacheco attended at Southern Maine Community College (SMCC).
Floor maintenance person (and many other duties as assigned) Guy Rochefort was nominated for the Greater Portland Convention & Visitors Bureau’s Going the Extra Mile (GEM) Award. Guy is an exceptional employee who exemplifies the Nonantum attitude, culture and sense of genuine hospitality.
Former baker Barbara Bloomgren left after the 2015 season to pursue her dream of opening her own bakery/restaurant – Towanda’s Specialty Foods and Deli in Bridgton, ME. Stop in and say hi!
While surfing last summer at Gooch’s Beach in Kennebunk, Alex Pearson, one of our dining room servers, noticed a young boy and his dad struggling to swim. They were caught in a riptide. Someone yelled out from the beach “Can you help?!” Alex paddled right out the boy and his dad and helped pull them back in to shore to safety. Another local hero!
